PD Art Instructor

COVENANT HOUSE CALIFORNIA POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: 

ART INSTRUCTOR 

This is a non-exempt, per diem position, 1-2 hours per week at $30 per hour                                                                               

Since our direct care staff work with youth that are 18-24 years old, we require that applicants are at least 25 years old. 

  

POSITION SUMMARY:  Under the supervision of the Activities Coordinator, the Art Instructor holds weekly “art” classes which are specifically for Covenant House Residents.   

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

1.   To provide CHC with a schedule of the proposed art program including dates and a syllabus outlining project goals for the Wednesday night Yoga classes that are scheduled to take place at CHC.

 

2.   The Art Instructor will provide CHC with a budget of the proposed art program consisting of itemized list of supplies and costs. 

 

3.   The Art Instructor will provide CHC with assistance in sharing resources (i.e. supplies, donations, funding assistance, access to free or low cost field trips) for the art program, where possible. 

 

4.   The Art Instructor will oversee the coordination of outside exhibitors/performances that may feature the work produced by resident’s participation in workshops. 

 

5.   The Art Instructor will coordinate all services in cooperation with the Director of Residential Services, Residence Manager, Spiritual Ministry Coordinator, and Activities Coordinator. 

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS: 

EDUCATION:     Certification/certificate in art training/instruction.

EXPERIENCE:    Minimum of 2-3 years of art experience in a classroom setting.   

SKILLS:    Must have good organizational skills and the ability to communicate with members, clients, vendors and the public.  Communication with and about youth must reflect a “strength based” and “trauma informed” approach.

TRANSPORTATION: Must have a valid CA Drivers License, reliable transportation and a good driving record.

WORKING  CONDITIONS:   Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. on occasion, bend, sit and stand for prolonged periods of time.  At times, may conduct classes outside.
