Assistant Residential Manager

This is a FULL-TIME (40 hrs per wk), Exempt position, Schedule includes weekends and evenings

Base Rate is $45,760

POSITION SUMMARY:  

The Assistant Residential Manager (ARM) works with the Residential Manager (RM) to provide leadership and management of day to day operations of our 30 bed emergency shelter program.  All CHC staff work together to facilitate safety and comprehensive programming for youth in our programs and services. The Assistant Residential Manager’s main duties include weekend and evening management, coordination, supervision, and training of a team of residential counselors to ensure the delivery of services to youth in the shelter are in accordance with the Covenant House Mission and Covenant House California Policies and Procedures and Core Principals. The other main focus of the ARM position is to work with the Program Team to design and implement the monthly program calendar and to participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours support and coverage. The ARM leads both the life skills programming and the chore program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  (Duties and functions performed based on the shift assigned)

 Staff/Team/Program

  1.  Manage and coordinate direct care services provided to youth.
  2.  Provide direct oversight, supervision, training and coaching to Resident Advisors, Safety Advocates, Per Diem's, and Volunteers.
  3.  Hold staff team meetings for informational and training purposes in conjunction with       the Residential Manager.
  4.  Assist in setting and coordinating weekly/monthly staff schedules to ensure       appropriate coverage 7 days per week.
  5.  Participate in on-call rotation to provide after-hours support around staffing challenges, programmatic questions and looping in clinical support when necessary.  
  6. Provide emergency back-up staff coverage as needed during staffing shortages or during crisis situations.
  7. Assist in the monitoring of staff for appropriate time card punches, review and turning in of timesheets on weekend shifts
  8. Assign and monitor staff responsibilities for the shift, including but not limited to:  medication distribution, supervision of youth and activities, cleanliness of facility, facilitation of morning and night meetings, transportation of youth to appointments, facilitation of group activities. 
  9. Conduct daily shift transition meetings.
  10. Identify training needs and advise the leadership team of training opportunities.   
  11. Work with Program Team to create and facilitate the monthly program calendar.
  12. Create and facilitate life skills training and chore program.

 Milieu/Youth

 13. Monitor Emergency Shelter census to ensure compliance with CHC open intake, restriction, discharge and re-entry policies and procedures.  Ensure ongoing monitoring and carrying out of strategic plan goals for residential program.

14. Provide crisis intervention to residents, as appropriate.

15. Assist youth in the follow through of assignments and tasks delineated on individual case plan. Maintain awareness of case management process and issues for individual youth

16. Complete all other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Experience with at-risk youth, preferably runaway and homeless youth.  Must have 1-3 years management/supervisory/coordination experience working within a residential setting, case management experience preferred.

SKILLS:  CHC expects that all staff in any leadership role help set an example for the agency, by leading through our mission of ‘Unconditional Love and Absolute Respect”.  At CHC this often means ‘rolling up your sleeves’ to work alongside staff when necessary.  It also means a willingness and a passion to get to know the young people served by the agency, to help ensure agency goals, policies, and strategies are in alignment with the needs of young people experiencing homelessness. Knowledge of adolescent development, crisis intervention, Part-R, CPR and First Aid. Must have good organizational skills and the ability to communicate with members, clients, vendors and the public. Ability to exercise appropriate authority when needed and good judgment in crisis situations, good written and verbal communication skills.  Bilingual (English/Spanish) desirable but not required.

TRANSPORTATION: Must have a valid CA driver license, have reliable transportation and a good driving record.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES:  Provide direct and indirect supervision to Resident Advisors, Safety Officers, per diems and volunteers.
